Some people think individuals are more and more dependent on each other, while others believe we are more and more independent. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
High cost of living – childcare and house deposits.
Reliance on family members to help.
Older generation more reliant on help from others with technology.
Outsourcing of chores to others i.e. cooking, cleaning, admin.
Public transport more common – reliance on others to travel.
Internet access – can buy online, shop online, book travel, study, education, find friends and partners.
Working from home.
Social media – addictive, tend to use this rather than talk to others.
Cellphone use – draw us away from others.
Easier to have relationships online.
Constant use of internet isolates us from others
Travel, educate, find friends and partners.
Use our phones rather than talk to others
High cost of living increases dependence on others
Eg. Grandparents helping with childcare/Parents helping with home purchases
Many tasks now done online; working from home; conducting relationships entirely online; ability to raise children alone.
In an increasingly online world, many people think we are becoming more independent of each other. Others believe our dependency on others has increased. This essay will discuss both views and venture my own opinion.
1. dependency n.
2. venture v.
Those who argue that we are becoming more independent suggest that the dominance of the internet in quotidian life has made us increasingly isolated from each other. Consequently, our reliance on others has reduced as we utilise the internet to book travel, find romantic partners and myriad other uses. （正方观点1） Moreover, we are more likely to be absorbed in our phones than to strike up conversations with strangers. （正方观点2）Conversely, those who think we are more dependent argue that the increased cost of living means many people must rely on family members for help. For instance, many grandparents look after their grandchildren, as the cost of childcare for parents is too expensive.（反方观点1）Furthermore, as house prices increase exponentially, many parents have to help their children to buy their first home.
1.dominance n.
2.quotidian adj.
3. isolated adj. 孤立的 be isolated from
4. reliance n.
5. myriad adj.
6. be absorbed in 专心于，全神贯注于

In my opinion, I believe we are increasingly more independent. With the habitual and addictive use of cellphones and the internet, our reliance on others has reduced dramatically. （给出观点）As mentioned, we can now do many tasks online, with very minimal contact with others. The way we work also means less contact with others – working from home has become de rigueur. （原因1）In addition, people have the ability to conduct relationships entirely online, with many people having friends or romantic partners with whom they have never met. The stigma around solo parenting has also decreased, with many adults now raising children alone, by choice.（原因2）
1. habitual adj.
2. addictive adj.
3. minimal adj.
4. de rigueur adj.
Though we will always be dependent on others to some degree, our relationships with others are largely becoming lived online, reducing our dependence on others in any real, visceral manner.
Visceral adj.
