PART 3-地点类-高楼

1.What are the disadvantages of living in tall buildings?

There are many disadvantages of living in a tall building. For one, the residents are reliant on the lift at all times. Any mechanical failure means that they have to carry everything up the stairs. On top of this the space is restricted by the design of the building and there is only so much room for personalization. If you are in a tall building the likelihood that you have green space for a garden is nearly nothing! It completely shapes your lifestyle.

  • reliant 依赖的
  • mechanical failure 机械故障
  • personalization个性化
  • green space 绿地

2. Do you think there will be more tall buildings in the future?

Although it pains me to say it, I do think that tall buildings are the future. They take up much less ground-space and allow more people to live in the cities. It means people can live centrally with access to public spaces, theatres and entertainment. It is much better to build a city up rather than extend it out.

  • Although it pains me to say it 即使我不想这么说
  • extend 延伸

3.Why aren’t there many tall buildings in the countryside?

Tall buildings are the symbol of cities, with significantly less tall buildings in the countryside as there is less demand, a lower population allows for more space. It makes little sense to have tall buildings dominating the skyline if they are empty.

  • demand 需求
  • dominating 主导

4.Why do some people like to live in buildings nowadays?

Some people, of course like and even prefer tall buildings. I suspect this is because they gravitate towards the lifestyle and enjoy apartment style living with magnificent views. There are many positives, living in a tall building often means that you are centrally located and have all of the perks of city-life.

  • like and even prefer 喜欢
  • suspect 怀疑
  • gravitate 被吸引
  • magnificent 华丽的
  • perks 好处
